…on my revamped web site!

I will try to update, check and respond to stuff as regularly as possible. If, however, you need to contact me urgently, it is always best to e- mail me or call my office.

Exeter currently faces a grave threat to its proud, centuries’ old local democracy.

The Boundary Committee for England wants to abolish Exeter City Council and hand over the running of our city to rural dominated Devon County Council.

This would be disastrous for Exeter and be the effective end of local, accountable democracy in our city.

Exeter City Council is one of the best-run local authorities in the country, has one of the lowest council taxes and has done a great job boosting the city in recent years. Devon, by contrast, is already too big and unwieldy and has a poor record of delivering services in Exeter. Just look at the state of our roads, the quality of our social services or the performance of our schools.

The Boundary Committee says it hasn’t made up its mind and is consulting on its proposal. It says it sees merit in an alternative plan for a unitary “greater Exeter” alongside a unitary Devon. It says the arguments are “finely balanced.”

We think the alternative, which includes a unitary greater Exeter is much better and are campaigning hard for it.

If you want to get involved or help, call Eddie Lopez on 01392-424420.

If you haven’t already done so, you should respond to the consultation. The Boundary Committee’s details are:

When doing so you should say you are opposed to the abolition of Exeter City Council and that you would like to see a unitary Exeter alongside a unitary Devon. It would be good if you could give reasons for your views too. We can help with those if you need more information.
