Tories under pressure

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

There’s no doubt that yesterday’s session of Prime Minister’s questions boosted Labour morale.

The Conservatives’ inheritance tax pledge which would only benefit a handful of super-rich has become an albatross around David Cameron’s neck.A symbol, along with Zac Goldsmith’s non-dom status, of how the Tories are still the party for the few, while Labour looks out for the many.

Gordon Brown has also been growing in confidence in recent weeks. The impact of the global recession on jobs, businesses and homeowners in Britain has been significantly less than everyone predicted and consumer and business confidence has been rising.

There is growing evidence that the recession’s impact has not been so severe thanks to the action the Government took - in contrast to the inaction of the Tories in the recessions of the 80s and 90s and advocated by them now.

So the Prime Minister feels confident he was right on the big decisions of the last 12 months and David Cameron called them wrongly.Barack Obama has also at last announced the big increase in US forces in Afganistan, which Britain had been seeking. The Sun may have just called things a little too soon.
