Exeter Constituency
Exeter is an historic cathedral city and the capital of Devon.
The city forms a single parliamentary constituency, though, due to strong growth, the latest boundary review has shaved the eastern wards of Topsham and St Lloyes into the neighbouring East Devon seat.
Since 1997 Exeter has returned Ben Bradshaw as their Member of Parliament.
Exeter’s fine medieval cathedral is the city’s most famous land mark. Exeter has a thriving university and a strong economy. The city is home to the Meteorological Office and has built a recent reputation as a centre for environmental industries.
It is also a popular tourist destination and a recently redeveloped city centre offers great shopping. A culinary heartland, Exeter is home to a thriving foodie scene and is home to the South West Food Festival. Exeter is also a great place to stay while exploring the nearby Jurassic Coast or the two National Parks in Devon – Exmoor and Dartmoor.
Alongside Exeter’s history as a major Roman settlement lies its current status as a young, fit, and forward-looking city. The University of Exeter has an excellent research and teaching reputation, while Exeter City Council is rated by the Audit Commission as Excellent and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is the best performing hospital in Devon and Cornwall.
